New 3-mile section of Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail brings 73-mile paved bike and pedestrian pathway through the gorge nearly to completion
On August 3, 2019, the state of Oregon will open a new stretch of trail from Wyeth State Park to Lindsey Creek, marking a significant milestone in their effort to create a hiking and cycling trail connecting Troutdale to The Dalles. The trail retraces the original scenic highway that was partially destroyed in the construction of Interstate 84 to provide safe hiking and biking through the gorge while allowing spectacular views along the way.
With 65 miles of the 73-mile trail complete, there are plenty of miles to explore.
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new stretch of trail will be held at the new trailhead at Wyeth State Park, located at exit 51 of Interstate 84, on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. The public will be able to explore the new trail by foot or bike from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
