Maine author Jeffrey H Ryan returns to the Jesup Library to discuss his newest book; This Land Was Saved for You and Me. “This Land” tells the story of how America’s public lands came into being both through the evolving understanding of how nature and our natural resources contributed to our spiritual and economic well-being and through a series of important generational handoffs. In fact, it was the ability of successive generations to nurture and grow the concepts of publically held land that led to the establishment of National Forests, National Parks, and Wilderness Areas themselves.
Ryan will highlight the well-known and often forgotten pioneers who championed the idea that public lands should be created, managed, and protected for the benefit of all.
“This Land” will be available for purchase at the event.
