The story of the creation of the Appalachian Trail is one of significant challenges and perseverance, much like hiking the legendary path itself.

Please join Maine author Jeffrey Ryan as the town of Gorham, New Hampshire celebrates its designation as an official Appalachian Trail Town by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

Jeff will share the story of how the idea for the AT came to pass and how the 2,000-mile trail was constructed over an astoundingly short period of 18 years despite clashes of personalities, the Great Depression and other significant challenges along the way.

After the presentation, Jeff will be selling and signing all three of his AT related books, Blazing Ahead, Appalachian Odyssey (an account of his 28-year section hike of the AT with a dear friend) and his latest book, Hermit: The Mysterious Life of Jim Whyte (a reclusive man from Monson, Maine who lived near the AT and led a secret life in the big city).
