What does it take to achieve a meaningful goal? For Jeff Ryan and a newly found hiking partner, it took dedication, perseverance and the ability to take changes in stride.
Starting in 1985, they spent a remarkable 28 years hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail until one day in the fall of 2013 they rounded a corner to realize they had hiked all 2,190 miles.
Jeffrey Ryan chronicled the adventure in words and pictures in his highly acclaimed book, Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year hike on America’s trail.
Since the book debuted in 2016, he’s traveled thousands of miles throughout the U.S. and Canada sharing tales from the trail and encouraging people to make progress toward their dreams.
His second book, Blazing Ahead: Benton MacKaye, Myron Avery and the Rivalry that Built the Appalachian Trail, published by Appalachian Mountain Club Books, debuted this past September.
Jeff is delighted to participate in the NHTI Wings of Knowledge series. He is grateful to NHTI, their presenting partner Southern New Hampshire University and the evening’s special co-sponsor, the Appalachian Mountain Club.
