Iowa City Book Festival
Maine author Jeffrey Ryan will appear at the Iowa City Book Festival Street Fair on October 14, 2017 from 10 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. to showcase his books.
Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year hike on America’s trail (released in 2016) chronicles the author’s nearly 30-year quest to hike the trail with a lifelong friend. His newly released book about the origin of the trail: Blazing Ahead: Benton MacKaye, Myron Avery and the Rivalry that Built the Appalachian Trail looks at how the legendary trail came into being.
Appalachian Odyssey is an informative, fun read that invites everyone along for the adventure. As one reviewer put it, “it may surprise people that I thoroughly enjoyed a memoir about hiking the Appalachian Trail. But I did!”
The former Executive Editor of National Geographic has written that “Appalachian Odyssey is destined to be a classic of nature and travel writing.” It is a story of enduring friendship infused with historical perspective and the joys of staying true to a vision.
Blazing Ahead explores the subject of how the best-known trail in the world was envisioned and built. It is the story of two larger than life personalities — that saw the potential for the 14-state trail and lived to see it completed at great personal cost.
“I am looking forward to participating in the Iowa City Book Festival. It is so good to be surrounded by authors and readers, especially in such a creatively rich and dedicated city. I can’t wait!”, says Ryan.
Appalachian Odyssey and Blazing Ahead will both be available for purchase and the author would be delighted to sign copies.
